LOYALTY TO THE TERRITORY
a choice of identity and vision

The vision of Castello di Paneretta is rooted in a clear and conscious choice: to cultivate and vinify exclusively Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero. This is not merely an expression of fidelity to tradition, but a profound act of respect for the land. These varieties are the result of internal selections begun many generations ago—a genetic heritage carefully preserved over time and passed down through the estate’s oldest vineyards.

The true heart of the estate lies in these historic vineyards, planted at medium to high density, which withstood the challenging years of vineyard restructuring in Tuscany during the 1960s and 1970s. While elsewhere grape varieties and training systems were being replaced, Paneretta chose to preserve what already existed, keeping a unique patrimony alive. For this reason, all genetic material used in both vineyard and cellar comes exclusively from indigenous clones, capable of authentically reflecting the character of the soils and of each individual parcel.

Currently, about half of the 16 hectares under vine are planted at a density of 5,000 vines per hectare, yet the estate’s gaze is firmly set on the future. New plantings envisage a gradual increase in density, reaching between 6,000 and 8,000 vines per hectare, in the belief that greater competition among plants fosters balance, depth, and expressive precision in the grapes. The exclusive use of Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero represents, for Castello di Paneretta, not only a historical legacy but also a cultural response to the growing homogenization of international taste.

Wines made from Merlot or Cabernet can be produced anywhere in the world; Chianti Classico, instead, is the only place capable of giving rise to truly extraordinary interpretations of Sangiovese and Canaiolo. It is within this irreplaceable uniqueness that Paneretta recognizes its future—continuing to produce wines that do not chase trends, but boldly affirm the identity of a territory without equal.
